What is Wellbeing? 🤔

Okay, let's be real, "Wellbeing" is a word that gets thrown around a lot these days.  It's like everyone's suddenly an expert on feeling good, but what does it actually mean!?
Well, here's the thing, there's no single agreed definition for Wellbeing amongst the scientific researchers, yet! 

Consider it like your favourite pair of jeans, they'll fit everyone differently! 

It's the same for your wellbeing, it's totally unique to you, but research does identify commonalities that you could FOCUS on to improve your own wellbeing!

Wellbeing is about how you feel mentally, physically, and everything in between! Think of your wellbeing as a vibe check across all of your life-domains!

You may be thinking, but "which life-domains and what are life-domains?"  Life-domains are essentially areas of your life that include many sub-areas, we categorise them as life-domains as a category. 

For example HEALTH, as a life-domain has many sub-domains, such as emotional wellbeing and fitness & nutrition.  At lifeprint.fit we focus on the 5-core life-domains of:

HEALTH > BEING > SOCIAL > VOCATION > WEALTH


...each having multiple sub-domains within them.

Back to wellbeing, which is about being able to check-in with your own vibe!  Checking in with yourself means you will need to cultivate, grow and develop your self-awareness!

Wellbeing: Why Should You Even Care? 🤷‍♀️

Good question! Well, turns out that looking after, and improving your wellbeing is a bit like levelling up in a video game!  It's basically a no brainer!

It will help you:

  • Handle life's curveballs like a boss: Ever feel like you're constantly putting out fires? Wellbeing gives you the tools to navigate those challenges with a bit more zen. 🧘

      A study in the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology found that employees with higher levels of wellbeing were more resilient to stress and reported greater job satisfaction.

  • Make smarter choices: When you're feeling good, you're more likely to make decisions that align with your goals. Think less impulse buys, more crushing those fitness targets! 🎯

      Research published in the British Journal of Health Psychology showed that individuals with higher wellbeing were more likely to engage in healthy behaviors like exercising and eating a balanced diet.

  • Become BFFs with yourself: The more you tune into yourself with <self-love>, the better your chances of improved wellbeing; and the more you begin to understand what makes you tick!  It's like gaining cheat codes to unlocking your life! 🗝️

      Studies have shown that individuals who practice <self-love> and self-compassion tend to have greater life satisfaction, emotional well-being, and resilience in the face of challenges (Neff & Germer, 2013).

So, how do you actually do Wellbeing? 🤔

Firstly, you don't just do Wellbeing. For the record you should be making it a priority in your life 😄.  But don't stress! It's not about becoming some kind of zen master overnight!

All in your own time, your wellbeing is about finding what works for you!  Maybe it's prioritizing a meditation sesh before and/or after work; hitting the gym so many times a week, or a run outside, or spending some quality time with your loved ones. Whatever floats your boat! ⛵

The challenge
... is understanding where you are right now in your wellbeing?  Then ensuring you have the right tools to help you and the piece of mind, knowing that whatever you're using is going to actually help your wellbeing, i.e. it's proven by science with data to support it!

Then it's just a question of measuring your progression and having the right coach who understands how to help you analyse and improve from there!  Simple right!? 🤔

To get a better grasp on wellbeing, it's helpful to understand some of its different components. However, without going into the science of wellbeing (which we've saved for another blog, keep your eyes out!); here are some tips to help your wellbeing:

  • Emotional: Positive emotions, working on feeling happy, content, and in control of your emotions. 😄

  • Social: Nurturing strong, engaging relationships and cultivating a sense of belonging. 💕

  • Physical: Taking care of your body through exercise, nutrition and sleep. 🏃‍♀️🥗😴

  • Intellectual: Engaging in activities that stimulate your mind and your creativity. 🧠💡

  • Occupational: Seeking out fulfilment, engagement and purpose in your work. 💼🌟

  • Meaning: Connecting with your values and beliefs, and finding meaning in life.  🙏

  • Goal-attainment: Identifying, validating and achieving important goals for you in your life. 


Often when we step outside our comfort zones to improve our lives, negative self-talk, and unwanted beliefs and biases can sabotage our efforts.
